Rights and Translation
Rights Exchange and Licensing Agreements
Nasirus Publishing actively acquires translation rights to significant foreign-language works, particularly those focusing on librarianship, archival science, and cultural heritage research in Central Asia and the Middle East. When acquiring rights, we seek direct contact with authors or rights holders to ensure smooth collaboration.
How to Propose a Translation
Authors or publishers interested in having their work translated to Turkish should contact Nasirus Publishing at [email protected] with the following information: (1) Title, original language, and publication year; (2) Author and/or rights holder name and contact; (3) Brief description of the work’s scope and significance; (4) Proposed translator (if available) and target publication date.
Upon receipt, Nasirus verifies the rights holder’s status, typically within 7–10 business days. Following verification, we contact the rights holder to negotiate terms.
Negotiation and Terms
Negotiations typically take 2–4 weeks and consider the rights holder’s preferences and Nasirus’s publishing capacity. Upon agreement, we execute a formal rights license specifying the translation language, territorial scope (regional or worldwide), term (typically 5 years), payment schedule, and royalty rates.
Translator Selection and Contract
Nasirus selects translators from its qualified network or works with author-recommended translators. The translator signs a formal service agreement specifying the translation fee, delivery date, revision periods, and rights terms. Revisions are managed on schedule; post-deadline requests for major changes are not accommodated except in extraordinary circumstances.
Sublicensing
With author permission, Nasirus may sublicense the acquired translation rights to other publishers. Sublicense revenue is shared with the original author, typically at 50% of the royalty rate.
Book Fair and Promotion Rights
Nasirus promotes acquired titles at international book fairs (Frankfurt Book Fair, Paris Book Fair, etc.), where we conduct rights-transfer discussions with other publishers on the author’s behalf. Author promotional materials are included in our fair catalog. The author’s royalty rate is preserved in all sublicense arrangements.
Catalog and Permissions Requests
Foreign publishers and institutional libraries may request Nasirus catalogs and publication lists. Catalogs include descriptive text about each author’s work and are updated twice yearly (spring and fall) and distributed to relevant institutions.
Rights Holder Verification and Registration
For every work we publish, we verify and register rights holder information with the Turkish ISBN Agency and international databases (Bowker). This registration protects the author from unauthorized use and ensures proper attribution in library systems.
