Royalty Payments and Copyright

Royalty Rates and Calculation Basis

Nasirus Publishing is committed to protecting authors’ intellectual property and ensuring fair royalty payments. Royalty calculations are based on net revenue from sales. Net revenue equals the retail sales price minus printer costs, trade and library discounts, shipping, and direct operational expenses.

Academic Monographs and Research Books

10% of net revenue; Commercial Titles (exceeding 5,000 copies annually): 12% of net revenue; Multi-author Works: Total royalty rate divided equally among authors unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Foreign-language editions (English, Arabic, French): Original author royalties remain unchanged. Translators receive 5% of net revenue for translation rights.

Accounting Periods and Statements

Royalties are calculated twice yearly: January 1 – June 30 (Period 1) and July 1 – December 31 (Period 2). Within thirty (30) days of period close, authors receive a detailed statement via email showing copies sold per title, unit price, discounts, costs, and calculated royalty due.

Payment Schedule and Method

Royalty payments are made to the author’s specified bank account within sixty (60) days following the close of each period via electronic transfer (EFT) using IBAN and SWIFT code. Authors must provide bank account details and notify the publisher of any changes prior to payment.

Tax Withholding and Compliance

In Turkey, royalty payments are subject to income tax withholding at 20% under Turkish Income Tax Law (GVK) Article 94/2-a for self-employed/professional services. Authors are responsible for including this income in their tax returns and consulting with a tax advisor. International authors (non-Turkish residents) are similarly subject to the 20% withholding unless a bilateral tax treaty provides relief; such authors must provide tax certification from their home country authorities.

Tax Certificates and Records

At the close of each six-month period, a tax withholding certificate is issued showing the author’s name, gross royalty amount, and tax withheld. This certificate is provided to the author via email for tax filing purposes.

Minimum Payment Threshold

If the royalty balance at period close is less than 50 TL (Turkish Lira), the amount carries forward to the next period. Balances under 50 TL are not paid separately except in extraordinary circumstances.

Royalties on Translations and New Editions

When a translated edition is published, the translator receives 5% royalty while the original author’s rate remains unchanged. Reprints (second edition, third edition, etc.) are calculated at the same royalty rate as the first edition; the author’s cumulative account is not reset.

Dispute Resolution

Any dispute regarding royalty calculation must be submitted in writing within thirty (30) days of the statement date. The publisher reviews the calculation and notifies the author. If unresolved, both parties may pursue mediation.
