Anıdan Yokluğa: İstanbul'un Kayıp Mahallelerinin Hafızası
Add to Cart
This research examines how the collective memory of displaced neighborhoods in Istanbul has been systematically erased through rapid urban transformation since 1980. Combining methods from urban studies, archaeology, and memory studies, the work presents ethnographic field research conducted in squatter settlements such as Sulukule, Tarlabaşı, and Zeytinburnu, supplemented by archival analysis and historical cartography. The study demonstrates that memory loss operates not only spatially but also as a social and cultural consequence of urban redevelopment. It analyzes how central and local government policies, contested narratives, and state-sponsored urban projects have structured this erasure. The research ultimately contributes new perspectives to memory studies and urban policy by arguing for an integrated approach to preserving metropolitan historical consciousness.
